Meet Abby Vidikan

licensed midwife

After graduating with honors from the University of Southern California, Abby found herself working in the political non-profit world in Washington D.C. When Abby became pregnant with her son in 2011, she immediately sought out a midwife and looked forward to experiencing an unmedicated birth in a hospital setting. Her life was profoundly changed when her son was born in October of that year, and she knew then that her calling was to midwifery, to seeing other women on their journey to motherhood through the power of birth.

Abby enrolled in the only MEAC accredited school in California, the Nizhoni Institute of Midwifery, and quickly dived into her studies, while apprenticing with two busy Midwife homebirth practices.

In January 2016 Abby gave birth to a daughter at home, surrounded by family (including her aunt the midwife), embraced in love and treated with respect.

Abby is licensed through the Medical Board of California, and is trained in Basic Life Support, and Neonatal Resuscitation. Since becoming licensed she has worked at two of L.A.’s premiere Birth Centers and managed a busy private practice. To date, Abby has had the honor of attending over 300 births.

I knew I wanted an intimate homebirth experience and started researching midwives and birth centers before we even got pregnant. When my husband and I first met Abby, we clicked immediately. She had the perfect balance of knowledge, compassion, practicality, and a positive spirit. I knew I could trust her to have my and my baby’s best interests in mind throughout my prenatal care, labor and delivery.

My labor was long, and at one point I was worried that I wouldn’t have the strength and perseverance I needed. Abby stayed by my side, talked me through contractions, and helped position me in a way to get Baby to advance down the birth path. Just her presence during my labor brought an amazing sense of calm.

Her guidance and knowledge helped bring our sweet Rose into the world safe and sound. She helped us initiate a breastfeeding relationship and offered the most comprehensive and communicative postnatal care that I could imagine. She was quick to respond via email/phone/text and seriously helped my husband and I feel confident as new parents. I enjoyed our appointments so much and looked forward to chatting with her each week.

I feel like I could write a novel and still not sing Abby’s praises enough. We will absolutely use her for our future Little Ones. I cannot recommend her enough. We love Abby!!

“Abby is like a friend, a soul sister, an auntie and an expert at her craft all rolled into one. In 2013 she helped us orchestrate an amazing home birth experience as our doula. Her patient answers to my many, many questions were and still are priceless to me. We are thrilled that she will be our midwife for baby two due August 2017!”

“Abby is one of the most caring, compassionate, knowledgeable, and fun women I know. She assisted me throughout my pregnancy and attended the birth of our daughter. She taught me about breastfeeding, baby care, self care, and how to labor effectively. I felt completely at ease and in control of my labor and birth with Abby by my side. My labor and birth were everything I had hoped they would be and I believe that Abby played a huge part in making me feel comfortable and capable. If you are looking for someone to take exceptional care of you, someone to advocate for your health and the health of your baby during your pregnancy and after, and someone who is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about pregnancy and childbirth, look no further. Abby is an incredible midwife, mother, and friend; you would be very fortunate to welcome her into your life.”

“It was not until 30 weeks pregnant I finally found Abby. Me and my husband knew she was THE one to be there for our son’s birth. We both felt completely safe and comfortable around her energy and knowledge. Professional, but yet friendly and funny. Home birthing can be scary and overwhelming at times, but to have Abby by our side made us feel so safe and strong. Even in the hardest moments. I trusted her knowledge and intuition in every step and I could not be any more thankful for her to be there for us when our son was born. I will be home-birthing my next child with her by my side again! Thank you Abby!”

–Fredrika W. (Los Angeles, CA)

“Abby is a really wonderful midwife. She helped me to navigate all of the doctors who kept seeming to want to intervene in my perfectly healthy pregnancy! She was a guiding light of advice and warmth while being totally professional. She delivered my baby at home, in her birthing pool, and gave me just the experience I hoped for. You should choose Abby too! I’ll certainly use her again!”
